I get this question a lot: Should you train new troops or promote existing ones in Kingshot? The short answer? It depends on the situation — so let’s break it down.
In general, you should always train your second-highest level troops and save promotions for big events like HoG, KvK, and Strongest Governor. That’s because promoting troops during these events gives more points than just training new ones using the same amount of speedups. Once you’ve unlocked Level 7 (T7) troops, you should start training Level 6 (T6) and promote them to T7 during events. Same goes for higher tiers — once you unlock T9, train T8 and promote them during major events for maximum points and a chance at the leaderboard.
So in the end, both training and promoting are important — just use each at the right time to get the most out of your speedups and build a stronger Town.

Infirmary Capacity:
If you have both low and high-level troops, getting hit in battle can be risky. The infirmary has limited space, and lower-tier troops will fill it up first — meaning your stronger troops might get permanently lost.
That’s why it’s a good idea to keep lower-level troops to a minimum by promoting them during HoG, KvK, and Strongest Governor events.
Troop Load:
Higher-tier troops carry more resources, which makes them way more efficient for gathering and raiding. So, having more of them helps a lot when farming or looting.
What should i do if i had about 30k t7 troops and down to 8k for all of them? Train lower levels then promote or something else?
If you’re done with the troop training stage of the Hall of Governors event, it’s better to just keep training your highest-level troops for now. Then, a few days before the next Hall of Governors, you can train your TMax-1 troops so you can promote them during the event for more points and a better shot at ranking higher on the leaderboard.
Do you have a break down of calculations in promoting Level 1s as compared to T(max-1)?
I’ve tested it and promoting the T(max-1) did indeed yield most points during the event compared to promoting Level 1s and even compared to training new troops.
I wish I had captured the data last time.
