I get this question a lot: Should you train new troops or promote existing ones in Kingshot? Well, the answer depends on the situation. Let’s break it down!
Training vs. Promoting Troops for Battles
If your goal is to gain power quickly, especially in the early and mid-game, training new troops is the way to go. New troops add more power because you’re not just upgrading existing ones—you’re adding completely fresh units to your army. This means you get the power from both your old and newly trained troops, helping you increase power faster.
However, for higher-level players who already have enough troops to fill all their marches, promoting troops becomes more important. Instead of waiting to train new ones, you can quickly upgrade your existing troops to higher levels, boosting your battle power more efficiently.
For Events like the Hall of Governor
Some events give points for both training and promoting troops, but most players agree that promoting your second-highest level troops gives more points than training new ones for the same amount of speedups used.
That’s why many players train a bunch of their second-best troops before the Hall of Governor event and then promote them during the troop training/promoting day to get a lot of points.
Other Factors to Consider
Before deciding whether to train or promote troops, here are a few other things to keep in mind:
- Infirmary Capacity: If you have both lower and higher-level troops, getting attacked or losing a rally can be costly. Since the Infirmary has a set limit, lower-level troops can fill it up first, which can make you lose your higher-level troops.
- Troop Load: Higher-level troops can carry more resources when gathering or raiding, making them more efficient for farming and looting. If resource collection is a priority and you can already fill all your marches with troops, promoting them is a better choice since it boosts your resource-gathering efficiency.
