The Bear Trap is an alliance event in Kingshot that provides one of the best sources of free Forgehammers and resources. Your rewards depend on how much damage you can deal within 30 minutes, with the maximum rewards unlocked at 1.2 billion damage. To achieve the best results, you should try increasing your damage output.
Basic Damage Mechanics
Before going up against the Raging Bear, it’s important to understand a few basic mechanics. Knowing these will help you build stronger rallies and pick the right troops when joining one.
- First off, Lethality really matters. The game has two types of damage stats: Attack and Lethality. Both are used as multipliers in the damage formula, but Lethality is usually much lower than Attack and harder to boost. So if you want to deal more damage to the Bear, focus on increasing your Lethality; it’ll give you a bigger damage boost.
- Understand how joiner mechanics work so you can stack their skills better. The biggest boost comes from using 2 Chenkos and 2 Amanes; that combo deals about 12.5% more damage than using 4 Chenkos.
- Only 4 additional hero skills are counted from rally joiners. I have covered this in the Advanced Rally Guide. If a rally already has 4 strong heroes, you’re better off not placing a hero in your first slot when joining.
- Expedition skills and Exclusive Skills interact differently. Expedition skills are additive, while Exclusive Skills (from widgets) can be both additive and multiplicative.
- Use the Battle Simulator to test different hero combinations and troop formations to find your ideal setup.
Always Upgrade the Pitfall
| Pitfall Level | Hunting Arrows Required | Attack (+%) |
| 1 | 200 | +5% |
| 2 | 300 | +10% |
| 3 | 400 | +15% |
| 4 | 500 | +20% |
| 5 | 500 | +25% |
The Bear Hunt can be activated every two days. In between spawns, you can collect Hunting Arrows by hunting beasts in Intel Missions and use them to upgrade the Pitfall up to level 5. Each level gives a +5% Attack bonus to everyone.
It takes 1,900 Hunting Arrows to fully upgrade the Pitfall. Each member can earn 24 arrows per day from Intel Missions. So, for better damage during the Bear Hunt, remind your members to finish their Intel Missions daily and donate those arrows.
If 40 members do it every day, you’ll have enough to max out the Pitfall every two days.
Preparing Your City for Maximum Damage
To improve your performance in the Bear Trap, focus on the following city upgrades:
- Research: Prioritize Lethality and troop deployment capacity.
- Building Upgrades: Boost your Command Center (for higher deployment capacity), upgrade hero gears smartly (goggles/boots), and enhance Governor Charms for additional unit Lethality.
Best Heroes for Rally Captains and Troop Ratios
When you start a rally, you become the Rally Captain — which means your hero skills matter the most. That’s why it’s important to pick the right heroes and use the right troop ratio to get the best results.
Below is a table showing the best heroes to use when launching a rally on the Bear for maximum impact.
| Generation | P2W | F2P |
|---|---|---|
| Gen-1 | Amadeus, Jabel, Saul | Howard, Jabel, Quinn |
| Gen-2 | Amadeus, Hilde, Marlin | Zoe, Jabel, Quinn |
| Gen 3 | Amadeus, Petra, Marlin | Zoe, Petra, Quinn |
| Gen 4 | Amadeus, Petra, Rosa | Zoe, Petra, Rosa |
| Gen 5 | Amadeus, Petra, Rosa | Zoe, Petra, Rosa |
| Gen 6 | Amadeus, Petra, Yang | Zoe, Petra, Rosa |
Recommended Troop Formation: 10% Infantry, 10% Cavalry, and 80% Archers. This setup works well for most players, but if you want a formation that fits your stats and heroes better, use the Battle Simulator’s troop formation tool.
*Saul becomes a better option than Quinn once you’ve upgraded him to 4 stars.
Amadeus is the best pick for launching rallies in both Gen 1 and Gen 2—his stats are better than Gen 2 heroes. The only issue is that there aren’t many good joiner heroes early on.
If you want a decent damage score in the event, it’s better not to use Amadeus to launch rallies. Saving him for rally joining will help you get more overall damage points during the event since his first expedition skill is a good joiner skill.
So if your Helga is strong enough, it’s better to let her launch the rally instead. She has a solid widget that boosts Lethality, which helps cover for what you lose by not using Amadeus.
For F2P players looking to do well in Bear Trap during Gen 1 and 2, it’s best to focus on upgrading Jabel and Quinn. For the third hero, go with Howard in Gen 1 and switch to Zoe in Gen 2.
Also, try using a formation with more Archers. Since you’re fighting the Bear, you want to deal as much damage as possible. Archers hit the hardest, and because the Bear is an infantry unit, Archers also get a 10% bonus damage from their Ranged Strike skill.
The Bear doesn’t really kill your troops, so defense isn’t that important. Archers usually do better in Bear Hunt since the Bear doesn’t fight back, so they don’t die.
For example, if you’re using Gen 1 heroes like Helga, Jabel, and Saul in a rally, each of them gives a +200% Attack boost to their own troop type. So if you don’t send Infantry or Cavalry, you’re losing out on a total of +400% Attack from Helga and Jabel alone, which is a massive boost to skip.
Hero Captains: The Key to Rally Damage Bonuses
Each rally can receive up to four additional skills from players who join. The most important hero to send is:
- Chenko – She provides a +25% damage boost if her first Expedition skill is Level 5. However, to activate the bonus, she must be the first hero in formation and among the first four to join the rally.
- Amadeus – If your Helga has better stats (which is often the case early on since she unlocks first and is included in the first VIP packs), then it’s better to use Helga to launch the rally. In that case, you can send Amadeus as a rally joiner instead — his first skill is similar to Chenko’s.
- Yeonwoo – Just like Chenko and Amadeus, Yeonwoo also gives a 25% Lethality boost when she reaches star level 4.
- Amane – She also provides DamageUp as a joiner and stacks well with 2 Chenko/Yeonwoo/Amadeus.
- Margot – She also gives a DamageUp bonus with a different effect_id, as explained in the joiner mechanics article. That’s why she stacks well with Chenko, Yeonwoo, or Amadeus — just like Amane.
Important Rally Joining Rules:
- If there are fewer than four DamageUp heroes (from the list above) in the rally, send a DamageUp hero as your first pick.
- If there are already four DamageUp heroes, send a blue hero as your first hero instead. Make sure that hero is in the Drill Camp so they can carry more troops, since troop count depends on the hero’s level.
- If you send a blue hero with a maxed-out first skill while the rally already has four DamageUp heroes whose first skills aren’t level 5, your blue hero’s skill can override one of theirs which can mess up the rally. So double-check before sending a bad hero.
You can confirm if the rally is set up correctly by tapping the yellow flag icon on the rally page and scrolling down. Once a Level 5 skill is locked in, it can’t be changed unless that player is kicked from the rally.
Refer to this Joiner Hero Tier List when sending joiner heroes. I keep it updated in the official Kingshot Discord, so make sure to check there as well.

Hey man, thanks for all of the guides. I have 2 questions regarding Jebel’s #2, Quinn’s #2, and Marlin’s #1 skills:
1) If you’re the rally leader, do Jebel’s #2 & Quinn’s #2 skills stack? They seem like the exact same, chance-based skill.
2) Marlin’s #1 skill is similar but worded differently enough that I’m wondering if it stacks, both as a rally leader or as a joiner.
For joiners, only the first expedition skill of the hero in the left slot is used. This means that Jabel’s second skill or Quinn’s second skill won’t activate when they’re used as joiners.
But, if you’re the rally leader and you have both Quinn and Jabel in your march, their second skills will stack.
Marlin’s first expedition skill is chance-based, so it doesn’t stack across joiners. If you have four Marlins as joiners, it will still only count as one active skill. But one Marlin’s skill can stack with the Rally Leader’s Marlin.
Thx for your guide, friend. But I have a question, I’m a f2p, but lately I bought the Oasis and Beyond deal so I can build three new purple heroes. I’m highlighting Yeon since she has similar skill to Chenko’s. Do you think she will be a perfect hero for bear hunt since my Helga isn’t built and I don’t have Amadeus and Zoe.
If you’re F2P, use Jabel, Quinn, and Howard to launch rallies, and save Yeonwoo, Chenko, and Amane for joining rallies. Yeonwoo and Chenko work similarly when it comes to joining rallies.
Hi, is it useful to cover the bear trap with banners bonuses or it is useless? Banner bonuses allply to the bear trap?
Territory Bonuses only apply when you’re defending your city (like when someone attacks you). In Bear Hunt, you’re the one doing the attacking, so those bonuses don’t apply.
How many rallies should I join with 40k infantry, 40k Calvary and 70k archers? Split into 2 Chenko and yeonwoo formation? Or equalize and join as many rally as possible?
In the Bear Hunt event, it’s best to join as many rallies as you can so you don’t miss out on damage points. Use heroes like Chenko, Amadeus, Yeonwoo, Amane, and Hilde (only if you have no better option). Try to send mostly Archers in each formation since they perform best, but if you run out, just send a balanced mix of your remaining troops for the rest of the rallies.
Hi! I have a question for rally joiners. So if I’m going to send Chenko and Yeonwoo for joining the rallies and I want to use the balance option for the troops, how many percentage of archers, infantry and cavalry should I set?
Use more Archers and fewer Cavalry and Infantry. A 10:10:80 ratio (Infantry:Cavalry:Archers) is good for this event.
How about if I’ll be a rally leader? I’m an F2P player and my top heroes are Jabel, Quinn and Howard. Does the 10:10:80 rule still apply? And how much rally cap does this apply to?
Yes, as a rally leader you should send the 10:10:80 formation.
Hello, I have a question (Ialready did a message but it looks like it disappeared)
I’m a P2W in gen1
In my Alliance I’m a rally launcher and I have 150K troops, and can do rally of 100k
What is the best way to go for me ?
1. Launch a rally with amadeus/jabel/saul and 100k troops and join a 2nd with chenko and 50k troops?
2. Launch a rally with 50k troops and join one with 100k?
3. Launch one with 50k and join two different with 50k witch Chenko and yenwoo
4 Launch one and joins 5 differents with chenko yenwoo and no heroes?
Other question, is it better to do very rally at the exact same time or to do some every 2/3 minutes?
tanks for your time and hope you understand everything :p
You should start rallies with Helga and save Amadeus for joining rallies. Since you’re P2W, I’m guessing you already have a maxed Helga. Use the highest number of troops in your own rally, then split the rest across the rallies you join with Amadeus, Chenko, Yeonwoo, and Amane.
Thx a lot for you answer!
Will do that.
Another quick question, il your last guide, (https://kingshotguides.com/guide/joiner-hero-mechanics-no-one-told-you-about/), It says that it is better to mix amane and chenko instead of four Chenkos. So I have to forget what you said here?
Keep up the good work! Really appreciate it!
This website is absolutely the key to playing this game well! I was hoping that there was an updated table showing the best heroes to use when launching a rally on the Bear for maximum impact for generation 3 heros..
Thank you for keeping this website updated it is just essential when weeding out misinformation about this game.
Thanks. I am glad you like the site. I will update the hero combinations soon.
Great guide. My question is this: since i am still at gen 1 heroes and total troops are not that many, should i still follow the 10-10-80 rule even if i dont fill my maximum capacity? if i maximize this rule as of now i can only send 1 march.
Try sending more archers than the other troop types; something like 20:30:50 is a good setup too. Use the simulator to see which combo works best for your stats.
Hello, thank you for your guide, it’s excellent and very helpful.
I have a question: Is ROSA suitable for the Joiner (left 1)?
This is a very important question. My server has different opinions on it. It would be great if you could answer it. Thank you very much.
You should avoid Rosa as a joiner because her first skill is chance based.
