Pets in Kingshot are a great way to boost your stats and power—probably more than you realize.
In this guide, I’ll explain which pets you should prioritize based on their skills and give you some useful tips on how to make the most of your Taming Marks through refinement.
Pet Priorities: F2P vs Spenders
Your pet priority depends on your playstyle—whether you’re a free-to-play (F2P) player or someone who’s okay with spending money on pet upgrade materials.
👉 For F2P Players:
Focus on growth pets like:
- Gray Wolf
- Bison
- Lion
- Cheetah
- Might Bison
- Giant Rhino
- Grizzly Bear
- Moose
- Lynx
Pets unlock over time, so when upgrading them based on the priority list above, just move to the next best pet if a higher-priority one isn’t unlocked yet.
For example, since the Lion unlocks later than the Cheetah but has a higher priority, focus on upgrading the Cheetah first. Try to get the Cheetah as strong as possible before the Lion becomes available, then switch your focus to the Lion once he unlocks.
Another thing about the Lion — he can drop a good amount of rare items like Forgehammers, Truegold, and Charm items. This makes him especially useful for F2P players, as he can give these items every 1–2 days depending on his upgrade level. The higher you upgrade him, the shorter his skill cooldown becomes.
As for Lynx, just level her up to level 20—no higher. That’s enough to get 40 stamina per day, which covers the 10 stamina required for each Pet Adventure (you can run 4 per day). This way, you can save stamina from other sources for events or terror hunting.
💰 For Spenders:
If you’re spender or a whale, the recommended priority is:
- Mighty Bison
- Giant Rhino
- Grizzly Bear
- Moose
- Bison
- Lion
- Cheetah
- Gray Wolf
- Lynx
If you’re a spender, your main focus for pet upgrades should be on battle-related pets. At the top of the list is the Mighty Bison, since he increases the number of troops you can bring into rallies — and troop count can heavily affect battle outcomes. Even if your stats are a bit lower, having more troops can often secure the win.
Another thing to consider when upgrading pets is their rarity. Legendary pets give a bigger Attack and Defense boost per upgrade, which makes them higher priority. They offer more value for each pet food used, even if their skills aren’t as impressive as some lower-rarity pets.
When following this upgrade priority list, if your kingdom hasn’t unlocked a higher-priority pet yet, just focus on the next best pet that’s available. Once the higher-priority pet unlocks in your kingdom, shift your focus to upgrading that one.
Pet Refinement Guide
Pet Refinement and Pet Upgrades are two separate things. Refinement uses Taming Marks and affects 6 stats: Health and Lethality for each of the 3 troop types.
If you’ve read my other guides, you already know that Health and Lethality are two of the most important stats in the game—so refining your pets is a great way to boost them.

When you hit the Refine button, your stats may go up or down. Some stats might improve while others drop. You’ll see your overall power either increase (green) or decrease (red). If the power goes up, hit Replace to save the new stats. If it goes down, press Retry to reroll.
There’s also an Auto button next to Refine. This will automatically keep good refinements and reroll the bad ones, saving you time.
Refinement Rarity & Thresholds
As your refinement stats increase, they hit certain thresholds and change rarity, from:
Gray → Green → Blue → Purple → Gold (Legendary)
Once your stats reach a new rarity, they can’t go back down, even if you get a negative roll. But the higher the rarity, the harder it is to get a good result. Still, the gains are much larger when you do hit a positive increase.
This is the breakdown of the thresholds for each rarity:
| Pet | Gray | Green | Blue | Purple | Gold |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gray Wolf | 1.01% | 2.01% | 3.35% | 4.69% | 6.7% |
| Lynx, Bison | 2.01% | 4.02% | 6.7% | 9.39% | 13.41% |
| Cheetah, Moose | 3.02% | 6.03% | 10.06% | 14.08% | 20.11% |
| Lion, Grizzly Bear | 4.36% | 8.72% | 14.53% | 20.34% | 29.05% |
| Giant Rhino, Mighty Bison | 6.7% | 13.41% | 22.35% | 31.28% | 44.69% |
Tips for Better Refinement
- Use Common Taming Marks for lower rarities (Gray, Green) since it’s easier to get good results early on.
- Once you hit higher rarities (Blue and above), start using Advanced Taming Marks because they offer a better chance at getting positive stats.
- Purple rarity is achievable, but reaching Gold rarity is extremely hard. At that point, it’s often better to start refining other pets instead.
- Rarer pets like Giant Rhino and Mighty Bison give better overall stat boosts through refinement—so prioritize refining them first if you have them.
Hi thanks for the guide. I am in level 23 but where I can find these pets?
Pets first become available when your Kingdom is around 60 days old.
Where can we find how old our Kingdom is?
There are a few ways to check that. Just go to Kingshot Database site > Database > Server Timeline — it lists several methods to find your kingdom’s age.
Thanks for the guide! Our server just got pets.
Wondering if the attack/defense stats from each pet stack, and if so, why not upgrade lynx for higher stats?
Also, do refinement stats stack as well? If I have 2% archer lethality from lynx and 3% from wolf, do I have +5%?
Yep, the stat boosts from pets are added directly to your existing stats.
